Pinning and Labelling Insect Specimens - notes from an artist's perspective

  • relax specimens before pinning

  • the pin usually goes through the thorax (slightly right to the midline of the insect body)

  • two labels (identical in size) must be lined up parallel to the insect's body in length

  • top label should have the county & state (of collection), date, name of collector

  • bottom label should have the Order name of the insect

  • height of pin matters!
